Through the support of the initiative, the aim is to safeguard threatened or declining endemic and migratory bird species and protect their important habitats in the Peruvian Tropical Andes region, through the creation of subnational protected areas (regional, municipal, communal, indigenous, public or private) in the country.
With the aim of strengthening the conservation of threatened, endemic and migratory bird species in decline in priority areas in Peru, the second Conserva Aves call for proposals was launched in our country. This initiative is led by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC), National Audubon Society, BirdLife International, Birds Canada and the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Environmental Funds (RedLAC), together with national partners Profonanpe and ECOAN, with the support of the Government of Canada.
This inclusive conservation and climate change strategy seeks to fund initiatives that promote the creation or expansion of local conservation areas in priority areas for birds. It will also contribute to the design and implementation of management plans, capacity building and financial sustainability.
The best projects will be chosen, and each will receive up to S/350,000. The deadline for submission of proposals is 24 March 2025, through Profonanpe’s website.
Who can apply to Conserva Aves in Peru?
This competition is aimed at indigenous peoples, community organisations, peasant communities, Afro-descendant communities, women-led organisations, academic institutions, NGOs and private sector representatives interested in the sustainable use of natural resources.
The proposed protected area must be located in one of the priority (eligible) areas of the Conserve Birds initiative. It must also have a regular presence of populations of one or more globally or nationally threatened bird species, with priority for Critically Endangered (CR) and Endangered (EN) species.
