Conserva Aves, with the support of the Government of Canada and in collaboration with American Bird Conservancy, has launched five exciting projects in Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador. These initiatives promote the sustainability of protected lands through birdwatching tourism, agroforestry, and community training.

Conserva Aves, with the support of the Government of Canada and in collaboration with American Bird Conservancy, has launched five new initiatives in Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador to promote the sustainability of protected lands. These actions, part of Conserva Aves’ direct investment mechanism, channel strategic resources to key sites for the conservation of at-risk bird species, strengthening the work of local partners with deep knowledge of their territories.
The projects integrate strategies such as birdwatching tourism, agroforestry, and community training, with the goal of promoting community-led conservation.
– In Mexico, Pronatura Noreste collaborates with ranchers to implement sustainable practices, while the Autonomous University of Guerrero trains community brigades to protect reserves in ejidos.
– In Peru, ECOAN promotes birdwatching tourism as a local economic driver and encourages community participation in environmental protection.
– In Ecuador, Fundación Jocotoco supports the creation of community conservation areas, trains rangers, and promotes citizen science. Meanwhile, Fundación Aliados, together with the Chachi Indigenous community, transforms monocultures into agroforestry systems and restores key ecosystems.
These initiatives not only advance the protection of birds and strategic habitats but also strengthen the link between conservation, sustainable development, and community leadership.
