Chachapoyas, Peru – October 2025. As part of the Conserva Aves kickoff workshop in Peru, six winning projects officially began implementation in the field, marking a new step for community-led conservation and the protection of more than 240,000 hectares of key ecosystems for the country’s birds and biodiversity.

From October 13 to 16, the city of Chachapoyas hosted the gathering that brought together representatives from the winning organizations of the second Conserva Aves call, along with national and international partners. This space marked the beginning of a new phase of collaborative work among local communities, civil society organizations, and government actors committed to nature conservation.
The six initiatives will be implemented in the regions of Junín, Loreto, Amazonas, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, and Huánuco, strengthening territorial management and promoting the creation and consolidation of subnational conservation areas. Together, these projects will receive a total investment of S/ 1.7 million, aimed at protecting priority ecosystems and endemic, migratory, and threatened bird species.
The workshop facilitated an exchange of experiences, capacity building, and coordination among the technical teams of the implementing organizations and partner institutions. Through participatory dynamics, teams reviewed strategies for project implementation, the inclusion of gender and intercultural approaches, and the promotion of inclusive and sustainable conservation.
With the support of local communities and the leadership of local partners, Conserva Aves is strengthening its presence in Peru, connecting territories through conservation and reinforcing local environmental management to address the challenges of biodiversity loss.

Conserva Aves is an alliance between American Bird Conservancy (ABC), National Audubon Society, BirdLife International, Birds Canada, and the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Environmental Funds (RedLAC). In Peru, it is implemented by Profonanpe in partnership with the Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos (ECOAN).
